Introduction
Internet Safety 2.0 is a curriculum web that aids in the instruction of Internet Safety. It introduces the students in an online format to the dangers of internet use. It educates them in how to Be Smart and Be Safe while on the internet. Students learn strategies on how to deal with real world situations that may arise while online.

Aim
The Internet Safety 2.o initiative's aim is to promote the understanding of the dangers online so that middle school students will be better informed when making decision while online. This online learning environment will allow students to interact and get feedback on their decision making.

Rationale
The generation of students currently taught is growing up in the digital age. They are using many different tools for communicating, accessing information, and entertainment than ever before. The current generation (or the Millennial Generation) is growing up in an era of Mass Communication and the internet. It is important as educators to educate the students on how important it is to be safe on the internet. Here is an article on CBS News called The Millennials Are Coming that better explain the characteristics of this generation.
It is important to insure the safety of our youth while in the digital communication age. By educating them about being safe on the internet they are more likely to make better choices when faced with difficult decisions in the future.

Learners
These activities are designed for middle school students in the 7th and 8th grades. Although, this information is very helpful and could be used with older or younger students.

Prerequisites
Before using the Internet Safety 2.0 Module, students should be able to use a printer, navigate the internet, be able to read at a 5th grade level, and have signed the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) for the school district. They must demonstrate knowledge using a mouse and keyboard.

Goals and Objectives
The goal of this curriculum is to educate students on the dangers that exist while using the internet. The goal is to better equip today's student with the tools to make good decisions when faced with situations that may be considered dangerous while online.
Learning Objectives
- recognize ways personal information provided on the internet can be used to harm the user so that they will make responsible choices in what they reveal online
- revise screen/user names and/or passwords to apply safety standards if needed
- refuse to communicate with strangers who exhibit grooming tactics
- refuse to meet face to face with Internet strangers
- recognize and report suspicious behavior by an online stranger to a trusted adult
- refuse to be a willing participant in inappropriate online relationships
Instructional Plan
Students will be learning in a combination of online activities and in class activities with their instructor. Due to the nature and security of Internet Safety, this is necessary to avoid contradictions.
7th Grade
In the 7th grade instruction, there is a total of two lessons. The activities involved in the lessons walk the students through the concepts. These activities will promote discussion and allow students to participate in the curriculum. At the end of each lesson there is an online assessment to assess the understanding of the lesson.
8th Grade
In the 8th grade instruction, there is a total of three lessons. The activities involved in the lessons will be a combination of online assessments and class work. There are two activities that involve group discussion and a group presentation.
